California Steel Industries announces executive appointments

California Steel Industries Inc., a producer of flat-rolled steel and ERW pipe based in Fontana, Calif., has announced several staff appointments.
Marcelo Botelho has been named president/CEO. He replaces Toshiyuki ("Ted") Tamai, who is retiring after 43 years in the steel industry in Japan and the U.S. Botelho has held positions in the utility, aerospace, and aluminum industries in Brazil. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Universidade Federal Fluminense, a master’s degree in production engineering from the Pontificia Universidade Católica, and an MBA from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
Scott Starr has been appointed executive vice president, operations. He joined the company in 1992, serving most recently as general manager, operations. He holds a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from University of California, Irvine. Starr succeeds Harold Allin, who is retiring after 47 years in the steel industry.
The company also has named Tadaaki Yamaguchi as chairman of the board. He currently serves as president of JFE Steel America Inc. He has an MBA from Vanderbilt University.
