Schuler has received a major order for delivery of a spiral pipe mill from Tuberías Procarsa, subsidiary of Industrias CH S.A.B. de C.V., based in Monclova, Coahuila, Mexico.

The company will use the offline spiral pipe machine to produce large steel pipes with diameters from 20 to 88 in. and lengths from 39.37 to 80 ft. They will be used mainly for building pipelines in oil and gas extraction.

The input stock for the large pipes is a coil-wound strip up to 1 in. thick, comprising high-grade steel (up to X100). The spiral pipe mill forms the material into the required pipe diameter and connects the edges by tack welding. Following that, welding of the pipe is completed on a separate welding stand using the submerged-arc method.

The pipe mill is more than 1,476 ft. long and includes facilities for testing the large pipes with ultrasound, X-rays, and pressurized water according to API standards. The mill will increase the pipe producer’s capacities by 242,500 tons per year.
