STINA announces first companies to achieve Certified Producer status

The Steel Tube Institute of North America (STINA), Chicago, has announced that six steel tube producing companies have passed its audit process and may display the STINA Certified Producer mark on their products.

The companies are the first to pass a three-month process of internal audits and product testing administered by Intertek to ensure their processes, manufacturing procedures, and products adhere to ASTM and other nationally recognized manufacturing standards.

All of the facilities certified are producers of steel hollow structural sections (HSS). Two of the companies qualified more than one manufacturing location.

The certified facilities are Allied Tube (Morrisville, Pa.), Atlas Tube (Chicago; Harrow, Ont.; and Plymouth, Mich.), Bull Moose Tube (Trenton, Ga., and Elkhart, Ind.), Searing Industries (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), Southland Tube (Birmingham, Ala.), and Vest Inc. (Los Angeles).

The program is an ongoing process. After a company has passed the initial assessment, it is subjected to up to two visits a year by Intertek, which audits and tests the company’s raw materials, production processes, and postproduction test reports and obtains samples of manufactured tubes for testing at its verification center.
