Facebook adds waterjet system to new hardware lab

Tallmadge, Ohio-based WARDJet has announced that Facebook has installed a ZX-1530-5 waterjet system in its newly opened Area 404 R&D lab.

The room-sized, 5-axis cutting machine is used to cut enclosures for future prototypes of the Surround360, a 3-D, 360-degree camera system that resembles a miniature UFO on a selfie stick. Facebook also intends to use the waterjet to aid in the creation of Aquila, a solar-powered flying drone that will provide internet for developing countries.

TESLA also has installed a custom-built WARDJet waterjet machine for use in quality control. The waterjet is used to remove test specimens from complex structural castings used to create the Model S, Model X, and Model 3.
