Missouri University of Science & Technology wins WARDJet waterjet

Missouri University of Science & Technology, Rolla, Mo., has installed a WARDKit 5x5 waterjet cutting system at its Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center. The machine was won by a student team that participated in WARDJet’s Build It! Challenge at the 2016 International Manufacturing Technology Show.

The competition engaged teams of mechatronics students in a hands-on experience requiring them to assemble a high-end waterjet system. Students who participated in the competition then were entered in a drawing to win the waterjet they worked to assemble for their school’s machining lab, valued at approximately $89,000. The system—equipped with a 30-HP, 60,000-PSI pump—replaces a decades-old waterjet table.
