Compact paint robot works with 1k, 2k, waterborne paints

ABB's IRB 52 paint robot is compact and can be mounted on the floor, inverted, tilted, or on the wall.

The robot is suitable for various paint applications, including 1k, 2k, and waterborne paints. The 7-kg payload meets most requirements for single-, dual-, and triple-gun products, the company reports. Operation modes include automatic line with conveyor tracking and manual with a shuttle table or turntable. The robot is resistant to the harsh production environments found in a typical spray booth, according to the manufacturer.

The mounting options, combined with a slim forearm and small offset, allow operation in narrow spaces. A backward bending feature enables a single robot to be used for two spray booths with face-to-face installation. The low weight simplifies installation—especially for wall, inverted, and tilted mounting—and the simple support structure has minimal impact on the spray booth structure design. The robot has a 4.76-ft. reach.
