Live welding guidance system helps welders establish proper technique

Realityworks® Inc. has introduced the guideWELD™ LIVE welding guidance system to its line of Real Career® welding products. The system takes the step from simulation to real life, providing live welding guidance to help users establish proper position and technique while welding.

The system provides immediate in-helmet feedback on three core aspects of welding technique: speed, work angle, and travel angle. This real-time feedback occurs inside the welding helmet in the user’s periphery vision, so both the feedback and the weld puddle can be monitored simultaneously. By monitoring that feedback, users can see — while welding — if they need to correct their technique.

Designed for education, the system includes comprehensive curricula that feature lessons on welding techniques, weld defect correction, and weld safety, as well as study tools for students and educational resources for teachers. It is preprogrammed with nine welding procedure specifications (WPSs), and customizable WPSs can be programmed. Features include an autodarkening welding helmet with guidance display, a speed sensor with base, and an angle sensor that works on any GMAW machine.
