Recyclable 900-lb. welding wire drum reduces downtime

February 12, 2008

Hobart Brothers has introduced a 900-lb. recyclable drum for metal-cored welding wire, intended to reduce downtime associated with drum changeovers. According to the manufacturer, the X-Pak drum minimizes the number of changeovers per month and year by about 33 percent, compared to standard 600-lb. drums.

The drum, which comprises fiber that is100 percent recyclable, measures 35 in. tall and 23 in. dia. It is packaged and shipped on individual skids. A 23-in. chimeless cone allows the entire drum to be recycled. An optional overhead lifting device expedites handling by utilizing cam action that stabilizes the drum during transport. The lifting device attaches to an overhead hoist or fork on a lift truck.

The company offers five types of metal-cored wire in the drum: Tri-Mark® Metalloy® Vantage™; Metalloy 76; Hobart® Fabcor® 86R; Corex® Metal-Cor Maxim™ and Metal-Cor 6 in diameters of 0.045 in. and 0.052 in.
