Submerged arc flux designed for spiral pipe seam welding

June 9, 2009

Lincoln Electric has introduced Lincolnweld® SPX80 submerged arc flux, designed for ID and OD submerged arc spiral pipe seam welding. The flux features low-temperature impact properties, a smooth bead profile, self-peeling slag, high-speed welding capability, and H8 diffusible hydrogen levels.

The company recommends that the flux be used with its LA-81 electrode for two-run welding applications including API X80 grade pipe. This combination meets the AWS F9TA4G-EG classification and allows welds to exceed the mechanical requirements specified for arctic-grade pipe, the manufacturer states.

When combined with L-61, L-70, or LA-90 wire, the flux can meet any AWS classification for two-run applications.
