Trailing shields help prevent oxidation, discoloration when welding stainless steel, titanium, duplexes

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques Ltd. offers trailing shields that can be fitted to torches to provide additional argon shielding during welding.

Available for all makes of GTAW, GMAW, and plasma torches for manual or automatic welding, the shields help ensure that the hot weld zone is shielded with argon for a longer period. The extra inert gas shielding provides more time for the metal to cool below the temperature at which it would oxidize and improves weld appearance.

Flat shields are offered for welding sheet metal or plate. Radiussed shields are available for all diameters of tube pipe or vessel from 1-in up, including versions for both outside and inside welding.

Other models are suitable for robotic welding. These shields are wider and longer for greater welding speeds than are possible with manual welding.

The shields help eliminate the need to use a purge enclosure.
