Welding systems provide remote control of power source
- January 19, 2015
- Product Release
- Arc Welding
The new multiprocess XMT® ArcReach™ systems from Miller Electric Mfg. Co. allow welding operators to set voltage at the weld joint without the use of control cables. This capability minimizes unnecessary trips to the power source. Voltage control at the weld joint also helps minimize operator fatigue and chance for injury and encourages best-practice weld settings and weld techniques, according to the company.
The 350 VS model for three- or one-phase power and the 450 VS model for three-phase power are suitable for industries such as shipbuilding and construction, where welding operators work at significant distances from the power source. Both systems, which are compatible with the manufacturer’s SuitCase® X-TREME™ 12 VS or 8 VS ArcReach feeders, provide multiprocess welding capabilities including GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and air carbon arc gouging.
Power source settings do not have to be accessed and reconfigured after each use. When the welding operator connects the feeder to the power source, the panel setting automatically converts to GMAW/FCAW (with gas) if it detects an electrode-positive connection or FCAW (no gas) if it detects an electrode-negative connection. Disconnecting the feeder restores the power source’s original panel settings.
