Fastening process smooths, folds material into seamless, solid form

Orbitform has developed a new metal forming and joining process, Rollerforming, that uses multiple rollers mounted on a rotating spindle to gently smooth and fold material into a seamless and solid form. The rollers intersect the workpiece on a precise contact line, the manufacturer reports, gradually moving the material to the desired shape.
The process allows the forming of large diameters and thin-wall materials and can be applied to applications where the rollers articulate as well as rotate, providing access into grooves and other areas.
