Self-clinching nuts, studs work in hard sheet materials
- December 24, 2014
- Product Release
- Assembly and Joining
New PEM® self-clinching nuts and studs are available from PennEngineering® for permanent installation into especially hard sheet materials in automotive component attachment applications.
The SH™ hard panel nuts and HFLH™ hard panel studs are manufactured from hardened alloy steel for strong threads. They enable close-to-edge mounting without risking panel buckling. The fasteners eliminate the need for embossing operations, reduce the amount of required hardware in an assembly, and install automatically using a standard press or in-die technology.
The nuts feature a small OD and lightweight design. They can install into high-strength steel sheets at 975-MPa maximum ultimate tensile and in panels as hard as HRC 30/HB 277 or less on the Rockwell C and Brinell scales, respectively
The studs can install into high-strength steel sheets at 700-MPa maximum ultimate tensile and in panels as hard as HRB 96/HB 216 or less on the Rockwell B and Brinell scales, respectively.
