Compact robot designed for arc welding applications

ABB Robotics has introduced the IRB 1660ID, a compact robot for arc welding and machine tending applications. Its Integrated DressPack design simplifies programming and simulation of predictable cable movements.

The robot features a strong, rigid upper arm with a 5-ft. reach and 13-lb. payload. It can accommodate heavy weld torches and provides improved wire feeding control near the arc for high-volume production, says the company. This, combined with the company’s TrueMove™ technology and the new accuracy mode motion process, provides 0.00197-in. path repeatability.
