Conveyance system carries autobody sections through robotic workstations

Kuka Systems North America LLC has announced the commercial launch of its Pulse carrier conveyance system for automotive car body assembly lines. The patent-pending concept uses linear synchronous motor technology provided by MagneMotion of Devens, Mass., to move body sections through robotic workstations along assembly lines as joining and other functions are performed.

According to the company, the technology is 30 percent faster than conventional friction-based transfer systems. With its solid-state linear motors, the line has few wear components. The line can be configured to handle up to four models.
