ID scarf washout/blowout station designed for flushing tube, pipe after ERW

Brandt has introduced an ID scarf washout/blowout station designed for flushing tube and pipe after the electric resistance welding (ERW) process.

An indexing system and walking beam system ensure pipes are segregated from the feed skids and moved into the washout and blowout area. The overhead truss system, which spans the length of the machine, has a cart with several nozzles to direct water to flush the pipe and air to dry it when washout is complete. It uses a pinch roll system to grab the scarf as it is washed out and a scrap chopper to reduce the scarf to 10-in. to 12-in. lengths.

Controlled by a single operator using a floor-mounted station with a touchscreen interface, the unit has three operating modes: fully automatic, semiautomatic, and manual.

Intended for products manufactured to API 5L/5CT and ASTM A53 standards, it handles pipe diameters from 2 3/8 to 16 in., with wall thicknesses from 1/8 to ½ in., and lengths from 20 to 60 ft. The cycle time is 250 pipes per hour.
