Stand-alone application performs DFX validation of product designs - TheFabricator.com

Geometric Ltd. has launched Geometric DFX, a stand-alone application for carrying out design for X (DFX) validation of product designs. Powered by the company's DFMPro® design-for-manufacturability system, the application uses the CGM 3-D modeling kernel from Spatial Corp. Spatial's 3-D InterOp also is used to enable data reuse for native CATIA® V5 and other CAD formats.

DFX represents downstream process checks related to manufacturability, assembly, quality, warranty, penalty, serviceability, environment, and reliability. Incorporating various DFX guidelines early in the product development phase helps reduce defects, cut down rework, eliminate waste, shorten time to market, and save costs, according to the developer.

The application, which comes prepackaged with about 100 design rules based on global best practices and can be customized to add organization-specific best practices. The manufacturing processes currently supported include machining, casting, injection molding, and sheet metal fabrication.
