CAD file importer added to shop management software

LVD Strippit has added a new module to its CADMAN® programming and shop management software. CADMAN-SDI (Smart Drawing Importer) helps simplify 2-D and 3-D CAD file import and calculation of cost drivers for quick creation of job estimates. It features an integrated 3-D CAD package for checking or correcting imported files.

A CAD drawing file is imported into the module with simple drag-and-drop action. A file can be imported part by part or in a batch of parts using STEP, SAT, IGES, DXF, DWG, SLDPRT, IPT, STL, and WMF file formats. Once imported, the file is converted to OSM (open sheet metal) format and stored in the central database.

The importer displays key cost driver information obtained from the 2-D/3-D file import. The stored OSM files are accessible for all other modules of the suite for generating laser, punching, and bending programs and jobs scheduling.
