Process joins wire without interrupting welding

A&E Welding Machinery has developed and patented a welding process for joining coils and bulk package drummed wire without interrupting or stopping the welding process.

The AEW2-1 wire-joining machine is designed for GMAW with wire 0.020 in. to 0.157 in. under continuous operation.

According to the company, the process is faster than restringing wire from the new spool when the old spool is spent. The process conserves wire from the feeder to the welding tip that normally is discarded when wire runs out. It prevents welding tips from burning up when the wire stops feeding; prevents discarding half-welded parts or having to relocate the gun to restart the weld; prevents weld pattern interruption; and eliminates restringing welding wire and replacing tips.

The AEW2 wire butt welding machine, designed for joining GMAW wire coils 0.020 in. to 0.157 in. while the welding process is shut down, also is available. Both units are available in 120 V or 220 V.
