Centerless grinding wheels help improve stock removal

Saint-Gobain Abrasives has launched Norton Century45™ centerless grinding wheels, which feature a chemistry that helps improve grain retention, increasing porosity for a given hardness. This allows wheels to have a hard grade with the performance of a softer grade.

The wheels are available with ceramic, aluminum-oxide, silicon-carbide grain and abrasive blends. They provide a continually sharp wheel face that helps increase stock removal by more than 30 percent compared to standard products, says the company. They also can decrease grinding noise levels by as much as 23.2 dB, even when grinding hard-to-grind alloys, the manufacturer reports.
