Finishing processes protect oilfield components

PRESTO BLACK® room-temperature black oxide and MICROLOK MZN® zinc phosphate processes from Birchwood Technologies are designed for use on oilfield equipment requiring corrosion resistance and galling protection on critical surfaces. Applied at safe temperatures, both finishes coat iron and steel components.

The black oxide process produces a nondimensional coating less than 0.5 micron thick. The 15-min. process is tested for corrosion resistance for up to 1,200 hours of humidity exposure when sealed with an appropriate rust preventive.

The zinc phosphate process produces a 5- to 10-micron-thick, gray/black coating. The 20-min. process operates at 140 to 160 degrees F with no boiling or splattering. It provides protection up to 1,400 degrees F for high-heat applications such as brake components.
