Portable foundry wheels help reduce grind time - TheFabricator.com

Saint-Gobain Abrasives has introduced Norton BlueFire™ portable zirconia aluminum foundry wheels for the metal fabricating industry. According to the manufacturer, the snagging cup wheels reduce grind time more than 40 percent and increase G-ratio by almost 130 percent compared to conventional zirconia products in foundries, welding shops, fabrication facilities, steel mills, and shipyards.

The friable zirconia alumina grain and resin bond technologies provide high metal removal rates and enable the grain to stay sharp and free-cutting for increased wheel life on high- and medium-pressure applications, the company states.

The wheels are suitable for steel, iron, and graphite applications such as removing gates and risers, flaws, and cracks from workpieces; smoothing weld seams; cleaning castings; and rough beveling.
