Quick-trim flap discs allow full use of flaps

Saint-Gobain Abrasives has introduced two new Norton quick-trim flap discs for the metal fabricating industry. Both feature a new, flexible, easily trimmed plastic back plate, allowing full use of the flaps. The plastic backing can be trimmed back to expose the flaps to help extend product life.

The SG Blaze® R980P type 27 flap discs feature ceramic alumina abrasive grain and a supersize grinding aid which, according to the manufacturer, provides 50 to 200 percent longer life than any flap disc on stainless steel, cobalt, chrome, INCONEL® alloy, titanium, and other hard-to-grind materials. The Y-weight polyester flaps help improve product life, grain retention, and fray resistance.

The TwinStar type 27 flap discs are engineered for light stock removal, blending, and finishing in one application. They are suitable for use on mild carbon steel, ferrous metals, and cast iron applications.

Both disc styles are available in 4.5-, 5-, and 7-in. sizes with 5/8-11 hubs for quick disc changes.
