Sciaky Inc., a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI), offers Direct Manufacturing technology, a large-scale, fully programmable means of achieving near-net-shape parts made from such metals as titanium, stainless steel, nickel, and refractory alloys.
This additive manufacturing (AM) process combines CAD, the company's electron beam welding technology, and layer-additive processing. Starting with a 3-D model from a CAD program, a fully articulated, free-moving electron beam gun deposits metal, layer by layer, until the part is complete and ready for finish-machining. Depending on the part being manufactured, deposition rates can be from 15 to 40 lbs. of metal per hour.
The technology can produce functional prototypes and production parts up to 20 ft. long and 8 ft. high using a variety of high-density metals.
