Wireless probe extends capability of tracker system

Hexagon Metrology has introduced the Leica B-Probe, an entry-level, wireless probing device that extends the capability of the Leica Absolute Tracker AT402. The hand-held probe is designed for the inspection, alignment, and assembly of large-scale fabrications such as railway coaches, construction and off-highway vehicles, and agricultural machinery.

The probe works within a 32.8-ft. radial distance from the tracker, with an accuracy of ±0.008 in. over a full measurement range. The 6.7-oz. probe, which features IP50 certification, is powered by AAA batteries.

Using the move station method, the working range of the system can be multiplied with almost no loss in probing accuracy, says the company. For larger parts or measurements that require higher accuracies, a standard retroreflector can be used in combination with the probe.
