CO2 laser optics fabrication enhanced

II-VI Infrared now offers micromilling and microgrinding for diamond-turned laser optics fabrication. By incorporating a high-speed tool spindle into a four-axis diamond turning machine, the company can machine freeform designs.

According to the company, this capability improves the manufacturing efficiency and positional accuracy of designs that once required complicated tooling and assembly. Products that can be fabricated with this technology include microlens arrays, diffractive optics, "fly's eye" structures, fluidic structures, optical molds, and gratings.
