3-D laser raises productivity by 25 percent

Prima Power offers the Laser Next machine, a 3-D laser for high-volume automotive production applications.

The manufacturer reports the new machine represents a step change in the development of its 3-D laser machines: productivity on a typical benchmark component (B-pillar) has been raised by 25 percent. This means that four machines can produce the same as five of the previous model.

The machine, equipped with a 3-kW or 4-kW high-brilliance fiber laser, offers a 682-FPM trajectory speed and 2.1 g acceleration. Features include direct-drive motors and transducers for the main axes and focusing head and a synthetic granite machine frame with optimized geometric design.

The machine’s footprint has been decreased, and the layout of the machine is designed to allow for stand-alone and multimachine configurations. The compact design makes it possible to site four machines in the same area as would be occupied by three of the previous model. No special foundations are required.
