Fiber laser offers 140 W of output power

JDSU has introduced the ST series fiber-coupled diode pump laser. Powered by the company’s next-generation diode laser chip, it offers 140 W of output power through a 106.5-µm fiber. The ultracompact unit is a highly integrated device that reduces the number of components needed to produce a kilowatt-class fiber laser.

The multimode pump module offers high brightness, small size, and simplified thermal management. The diodes operate independently as distributed heat sources, allowing reliable air- or water-cooled architectures, the manufacturer reports.

The laser has been tested for endurance and power stability to withstand prolonged use in manufacturing settings, according to the company.
