Fiber-optic laser cutting system requires no optic banks, beam centering, or laser gases

Cy Laser LLC has introduced a line of 2-D laser cutting systems for cutting sheet, plate, and pipe made of carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, and copper.

The laser beam is delivered by a fiber-optic cable measuring less than 0.04 in. in diameter. No optic banks, beam centering, or laser gases are required. Automatic focusing is accomplished by capacitive sensors located on the cutting head through a single lens. The beam diameter measures 0.002 in., helping to reduce kerf and increase beam concentration for efficient cutting.

According to the manufacturer, the machine runs 100,000 hours before any maintenance is required. Standard machines are offered with integrated pallet changers for uptime and ease of operation.

Several table sizes are available. The 78.74- by 236.22-in. model can optionally be fitted with pipe cutting capabilities. The optional 13-axis capability requires no changeover time from flat to pipe cutting. Pipe up to 7.87 in. diameter and 314.96 in. long can be processed in a space-efficient area in the rear of the cutting system.

The software package allows users to operate the equipment independently, either at the machine on a laptop computer or remotely via Ethernet.
