Power meter measures very high-power lasers directly

Ophir Photonics has introduced the 30 K-W Laser Power Meter. It allows direct measurement of YAG and fiber lasers from 800 to 2,000 nm and CO2 lasers at 10.6 microns. The 2.91-in.-wide aperture handles large-diameter beams.

Using thermopile technology, the device measures actual heat flow through the sensor disc. A reflective cone deflects the laser beam onto the inner circumference of the sensor, increasing the radiated area and reducing the power density to manageable levels. Response time is less than 10 sec.
