Fiber laser welding machine offers focused spot sizes to 10 microns

Amada Miyachi America Inc. has introduced the LF series fiber laser for precision microwelding. It can be focused to spot sizes down to 10 microns and offers control of pulse width and peak power to control the weld parameters.

The lasers are available in either single-mode or multimode options. Typical applications include welding of flexure arms on hard disc drives, medical spring attachment, and medical component assembly.

The lasers feature an internal air-to-water cooling mechanism for power and pulse-to-pulse stability regardless of ambient air temperature. They can be operated in modulated or continuous-wave mode while offering pulse shaping with up to 10 segments and seam mode ramp-up and ramp-down capabilities. The control interface can be integrated into the laser or provided separately.
