Enhancements made to horizontal machining center

Mazak Corp. has made several enhancements to its Horizontal Center Nexus (HCN) 4000-III horizontal machining center.

Y-axis travel and stroke have been expanded, and the Z axis has a higher allowable thrust. Rapid traverse speed now is 2,362 IPM, and machine acceleration rate is 1G. The machine’s spindle acceleration speed has been shortened to 1.3 sec. for the standard 12,000-RPM spindle and to 1.5 sec. for an optional 18,000-RPM spindle. Spindle options of 14,000 and 30,000 RPM also are available.

Four available integral motor spindle types — standard, high-torque, semi-high-speed, and high-speed — allow users to match spindle performance to their specific machining requirements with the proper speeds and power.

Chip-to-chip tool changes take 2.4 sec. Maximum tool diameter has increased from 5.9 to 6.7 in.
