Horizontal machining center upgraded with industrial robot

Handtmann A-Punkt Automation GmbH has automated its HBZ Trunnion 80, a 5-axis HPC horizontal machining center, with a Kuka KR 600 Fortec 6-axis industrial robot controlled by a Siemens Sinumerik CNC with Run myRobot.

Production is controlled by combining the Sinumerik 840D sl and the Kuka KR C4 controls. The robot automation cell is controlled via the machining center’s Siemens control panel, and robot mechanisms are integrated seamlessly into production processes. The control panel allows machine operators without special robot skills to program the manufacturing cell.

Sinumerik-based material handling and postmachining processes such as drilling, brushing, deburring, and polishing are possible for parts with a maximum weight of 1,323 lbs. parallel to machining.
