Inserts feature bronze TiOCN top coating

New Beyond Drive™ cutting tool inserts from Kennametal are designed for use on cast irons, steels, and stainless steels. They feature a proprietary postcoat surface treatment to help improve edge toughness and depth-of-cut notch resistance, as well as a micropolished surface to help reduce friction and workpiece sticking.

A fine-grained alumina layer allows for increases in cutting speed and helps increase reliability at high cutting temperatures, the company states. A new titanium oxycarbonitride (TiOCN) outer coating helps increase wear and abrasion resistance, while its bronze color serves as a wear indicator.
