6,000-W 2-D laser cutting system processes thicker mild steel, stainless

Mazak Optonics Corp. has increased the power output of its SuperTurbo-X Mark III 2-D laser cutting system to 6,000 W for processing thicker mild steel and stainless materials. Built using the company's hybrid platform, the system has a constant-beam-length construction to provide uniform cutting across the machine table.
Features include intelligent setup functions for automated nozzle spatter removal, a three-station nozzle changer, and focal point measurement and adjustment capability. These functions are part of the company's Opti-Pod, which helps minimize system setup time and extend unattended operation for longer periods of time while maintaining optimized machining conditions, the manufacturer reports.
The laser cutting system also incorporates a servo focus torch to help reduce piercing time, while an autocentering lens and nozzle design helps reduce setup time and increase pierce, plasma, and poor-cut sensing.
Table sizes of 4 by 8 ft., 5 by 10 ft., and 6 by 12 ft. are available, along with power output levels of 2.5, 4.0, and 6.0 kW.
