Laser cutting system incorporates automatic optimum setup

Mazak Optonics Corp. has introduced the HyperGear laser cutting system with the new Mazatrol PREview II control to help increase part cutting speed and efficiency. The system is designed to provide the optimum setup automatically to achieve the fastest cutting speed for each material type and thickness, the manufacturer states.

The system features an automatic torch and nozzle changer plus automatic setup of focus lens position, nozzle-to-material distance, and beam adjustments. A nozzle-grinding system enables the laser cutting machine to recondition its own nozzles.

The control and linear drives allow the laser to cut with 3G of acceleration while maintaining accurate corners and dimensions and roundness on contours. In addition, the control monitors key cutting conditions to predict failure conditions, prevent them if possible, and minimize recovery time. This feature allows extended hours of unattended operation.

The 4,000-W 510 laser system can process material from thin painted galvanized steel up to 1-in. mild steel and comes with a 5-ft. by 10-ft. bed. A 2,400-W version also is available with a capacity of 0.750-in. mild steel. Automated material handling equipment for sheet and plate is available to extend unattended operation.
