Lubricants developed for AHSS

Metal Mates has introduced a new line of water-based lubricants that have been engineered for use on advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) and difficult drawing, stamping, piercing, and flanging applications.

The choice of VS-HSS, OVS-HSS, or HDP-HSS depends on the severity of the forming application and the grade and thickness of the AHSS. These lubricants combine antiwear, extreme pressure, and corrosion protection for HSS, including dual-phase (DP), transformation-induced plasticity (TRIP), complex-phase (CP), and martensitic (MART).

The products can be applied by spray, brush, roll coat, or drip. According to the company, they won't become sticky and gummy as they move through the critical segments in progressive dies. Part cleaning is not required before welding.
