Smartphone app estimates metal weight, cost

Carpenter Technology Corp. has introduced an Android™ version of MetalMass™, its free smartphone app. The app is available for download in the iTunes® and Google stores.
Its interface allows users to calculate the estimated weight and cost of long-product metallic alloy materials such as stainless steels and titanium alloys, based on the alloy family, shape, cross-sectional size, length, and density.
The updated application functions in both imperial and metric settings. Created for design engineers, OEMs, and machine shops, the app provides an estimate and is not a guarantee of actual shipped weight or total cost.
