Steel offers guaranteed flatness after laser cutting

SSAB has introduced Laser Plus, a new generation of steels for laser cutting that comes with a guaranteed maximum flatness deviation of 3 mm/m after laser cutting and a bending radius of 0 to 1.5x material thickness. These features make it possible to meet the most challenging requirements in automated production environments, the company states.

According to the manufacturer, the dead flat process gives optimum flatness and minimal internal stress. Strict thickness tolerances and constant mechanical properties for each delivery help ensure trouble-free production.

Smooth surface quality helps increase cutting speed and surface quality of the cut edge. According to the company, complex and high-precision components and narrow contours can be cut without rework.

The steel’s surface is covered with a thin microscale to increase laser, waterjet, and plasma cutting efficiency. It is available in heavy plate and hot-rolled strip products.
