Press hardening system makes material up to three times stronger than standard steel

February 2, 2009

AP&T, a supplier of automation, hydraulic presses, tools, and production lines to the sheet metal industry, has delivered a press hardening system to China's Baosteel. According to the company, the system makes the material up to three times stronger than standard steel.

The system comprises an oven that heats the sheet metal to 950 degrees C and a SpeedFeeder press robot that picks up the glowing hot pieces and then places them in the press hardening press, which closes and forms the piece into a finished B-pillar while quickly cooling it.

The line is controlled by the company's LOGOS control system.
