- Punching and Other Holemaking
The PS 85 DP ironworker from Kaast Machine Tools Inc. has five workstations for punching, shearing, and notching. This machine has two independent cylinders allowing for dual operation, which permits parallel work on the punch and at a second workstation. This includes an electric trigger switch up to 3.28 ft. for quick work flow of repetitive work. Each workstation includes jog mode for tool and workpiece positioning.
The punching station can punch sheet metal, flat steel, and angle steel at 25 SPM. This station also contains a table with a working height of 42 in., stepless stroke adjustment, and an adapter for punches and dies. It can take a punch up to 4.25 in. dia. through material up to 0.75 in. thick.
The flat shear has a lower blade with four cutting edges, an upper blade with two cutting edges, and a table with angle and length stop. The angle shear, which has an adjustable rear stop, allows the user to cut angle profiles at different angles. At 90 degrees, the cutting capacity is 6 by 6 by 0.5 in.; at 45 degrees, it is 3.1 by 0.31 in.
The sheet shearing station has a maximum capacity of 15 by 0.75 in. and 18.9 by 0.6 in. Angle cutting capacity is 4.75 by 0.6 in.; blade length is 19 in. The steelworker is used for cutting round and square steel, and the notching station includes a table with stops, as well as a rectangular notching tool.
