Two-speed magnetic drill offers LED light in magnet base

Hougen Mfg. Inc. has released the HMD917 portable magnetic drill. Its power-to-weight ratio gives metal fabricators the strength and torque required to drill large, deep holes in steel.

A new pilot LED light is built into the base of the magnet to help the operator line up the pilot with the hole’s center location in low- or no-light conditions. The drill is powered by a proprietary high-torque, two-speed motor for increased torque when using large-diameter cutters.

A two-stage magnet increases magnetic holding power by 30 percent when the drill motor is turned on. A new arbor system uses a 5/8-in. slot drive for increased rigidity and hole accuracy.
