Band saw reduces cutting times by up to 50 percent

Kasto has introduced the Kastowin pro AC 5.6 band saw. The fully automatic machine is designed for bimetal and carbide blades for applications in steel production, machine manufacturing, and automotive. Depending on the type of blade, cutting times can be reduced by 50 percent and more, the manufacturer reports.

The feed system is controlled by two ball screw spindles, each with a servo drive for precise, infinitely variable control. A retraction unit on each side lifts the band from the surface when the saw head moves back to minimize wear. The 11-kW, frequency-controlled motor provides the capacity needed for carbide blades.

Two electrically driven plastic brushes keep the band free of chips. The sawing unit has a heavy, torsionally rigid welded structure with vibration-optimized ribbing to help ensure quiet operation.
