Servomotors in press bed increase force distribution, reduce deflection

Schuler has developed the TwinServo Technology (TST) drive concept, featuring two decentralized servomotors in the press bed.

The slide is pulled, not pushed, downward, making the force flow more direct and reducing deflection by about 30 percent, according to the manufacturer. Tilting resistance is increased by up to 400 percent compared to conventional machines, the company states.

The force application points on the slide are located toward the edge, so the entire clamping surface can be used. As a result, eccentricities and eccentric loads are increased in absolute terms, which is important for multistation presses. Regulation of the two electronically linked drives influences slide tilting during strong eccentric loads.

The drive has been integrated into the press bed, but the foundation dimensions and underfloor space requirements have not increased.
