Induction dryer heats steel strip at 722 FPM

Ajax TOCCO Magnethermic® has shipped a 1,900-kW, 100,000-Hz induction heating dryer system to a steel strip galvanizing producer for drying coatings including passivation, with and without chrome products, and organics.

The induction dryer is designed to heat steel strip 0.02 to 0.10 in. thick and 31.5 to 65.98 in. wide at a rate of 722 FPM or 127 tons/hr. The equipment provides a temperature rise of 194 degrees F.

The system is designed as a single, unitized package assembly, which includes the frequency converter, capacitor cabinet, and single-turn heating coil.
