Linear stage offers 0.5-micron resolution

PI has introduced the M-417 linear stage, which provides 19.69-in. travel and 0.5-micron resolution. This motorized precision positioner can be computer-controlled for automation and precision assembly applications. The linear translation stage can handle high duty cycles and 3.94-IPS velocity.

The low-friction ball screw with a 0.08-in. thread pitch allows for maintenance-free operation, and the integrated PWM servo amplifier helps improve cost efficiency while simplifying installation and operation, the manufacturer states.

An incremental optical rotary encoder with 4,000 counts/rev. controls the position, providing unidirectional repeatability of 0.5 µm. Noncontacting reference point and limit switches help protect the mechanics from damage.
