Physik Instrumente (PI) LP offers a new motion controller for closed-loop precision positioning systems. The C-884, a 4-axis digital servo controller, controls motorized linear translation stages and rotary positioners with high accuracy and repeatability, the company reports. The high-speed encoder interface allows the use of direct-metrology linear and angular scales with resolutions in the nanometer and microrad realm and below.

The controller is equipped with a dual-core architecture for fast servo handling and command interpretation. The included PIMikroMove software helps the user to get up to speed quickly without the need for writing code. The company's General Command Set (GCS) simplifies the development of custom applications, as the commands for all supported devices from the manufacturer are identical in syntax and function.

Features include a data recorder and stand-alone capability, made possible by a computer-independent macro programming language that runs on the controller.
