Process modifies, creates new surfaces

Micropyretics Heaters Intl. Inc. offers Cascade e-Ion Plasma™ technology for such processes as tool bit coating, nonstick surfacing, glass bending, brazing, sintering, CVD/PVD, and surface cleaning. The reducing beam enables the simple formation of nitrides and oxynitrides for possible use on biomedical parts and for deburring and hardfacing.

The technology produces a highly stable thermal plasma plume using air and electricity. Its almost silent operation uses very little energy, leaves behind no residue, and is safer than traditional heating methods, states the company.

The process can be used with gases such as nitrogen, argon, and forming gas on materials such as hard alloys, metals cast iron, stainless steel, and composites.
