System allows remote monitoring of tube and pipe welding

Xiris Automation Inc. offers a new weld monitoring system that allows tube and pipe fabricators to monitor live GTAW, plasma welding, and laser welding processes remotely.

The system includes a high-dynamic-range camera that can see simultaneously all features of the torch tip and weld arc, its surrounding environment, and its position relative to the tube and pipe welding seam.

The optics kit allows for visibility into a small area. The result is a field of view small enough to provide high-resolution images of the weld pool detail as the weld arc cuts the parent tube material and the material subsequently solidifies. The operator can see if defects such as dross or porosity develop as the weld pool solidifies and monitor the condition of the weld tip, shielding gas, and material fit-up.
