Tempering furnace designed for heat treating weldments

Grieve Corp. has built No. 885, a 1,400-degrees-F electric, inert-atmosphere tempering furnace used for heat treating weldments. Workspace dimensions are 24 by 36 by 24 in.

The workspace is heated by 42 kW installed in nickel chrome wire coils, supported by a stainless steel frame. A heat-resistant alloy recirculating blower powered by a 5-HP motor provides vertical downward airflow to the work load.

This tempering furnace features 7-in.-thick insulated walls, comprising 1 in. of 2,300-degrees-F ceramic fiber blanket, 2 in. of 1,700-degrees-F ceramic fiber blanket, 2 in. of block insulation, and 2 in. of ROCKWOOL® insulation.
